The Town of Adams, Massachusetts has a history of successful development projects. From the Adams Corporate Park with more than a dozen successful businesses and hundreds of jobs, to the ongoing improvements and redevelopment of Park Street.
Ashuwillticook Rail Trail Extension
The popular Ashuwillticook walking and bicycling trail that runs from Berkshire Mall in Lanesborough to the Adams Visitors Center along the bed of an old railroad line is slated to be extended into North Adams. The Berkshire Scenic Railway offers fun and educational train rides between North Adams and Adams.
Berkshire Scenic Railway/Adams Station
The Berkshire Scenic Railway museum is now seasonally running historic scenic train rides starting at the newly repurposed Adams Station on Hoosac Street. Future plans include housing the museum's headquarters and historical exhibits inside Adams Station.
Park Street Improvements
Building on past projects, such as the installation of period lighting fixtures to beautify and dress up Adams' main business street, the current streetscape project includes features designed to slow down through-traffic to improve safety, while enhancing the visual appeal of Park Street. Wider and more visible crosswalks, a bike path and sidewalk improvements are designed to make a leisurely stroll through our attractive and historic downtown appealing to townspeople and visitors alike. As of 2019, this project is largely completed.
Private Development Projects
This exciting project is revitalizing a handsome commercial block that has been a major presence on Park Street since 1900. The Mausert Block project will include fine dining, a performance space and upscale apartments. Please see their website for full details as well as an interesting history of the building.
